Practical Driving Test Tips
On the day of your test:
You will have an hour’s lesson before the test, just to familiarise yourself with the area around the test centre and to check that all your skills are in order. Therefore you need to pay for a 2 hour lesson and your test fee.
You will then take your practical driving test, which lasts around 40 minutes.
Before the test begins the examiner will ask you one of the Show Me/Tell Me question combinations, but don’t worry – this will all be explained well in advance of your test.
During the test, you will be asked to perform two of four manoeuvres from the following:
– A parallel park behind a parked car
– A turn in the road (often referred to as a ‘three-point turn’)
– A left-hand or right-hand reverse around a corner
– 1 in 3 tests will also include the emergency stop
– A parking manoeuvre into a parking bay
During the test, the examiner will observe your standard of driving, your awareness of the road ahead and your ability to deal with situations occurring around you. You are allowed to make 15 minor faults, as long as you do not make the same minor fault three times.
The cost of the driving test is £62.00 weekdays and £75.00 weekends – and if you want, we can always sit in on the driving test with you.
